TELL ME MORE® Helps Address Literacy Issues in France with Groundbreaking New Program.

Paris, France - Dec 23, 2008

Auralog, language learning technology pioneer and publisher of the award-winning TELL ME MORE® language learning software program releases new language learning content built specifically to address the needs of low literacy and literacy challenged individuals in France. The program provides basic French language learning and skills to help immigrants and others to more easily transition into French society.

France enjoys a country wide literacy rate of 99%, which is among the top literacy rates in the world. However, like many other countries, France has a large population of immigrants (over 5 million according to some official sources) and immigrants account for a quarter of the overall population growth in the country. Based on published figures from the OECD 8.3% of the population is foreign born with many of these individuals lacking literacy in their native language not to mention French. The literacy issue was first officially identified in 1981 with the publication of the Oheix Report on poverty in France. Since this time an interministerial commission has been appointed and countless literacy campaigns have been undertaken to actively address the literacy issues within the country.

As part of the national focus on literacy, TELL ME MORE® has released a first of its kind language learning path geared towards low literacy individuals. This groundbreaking program is yet another example of how TELL ME MORE® continues to innovate in the world of language learning. Structured around a series of 22 videos, speech recognition technology and audio exercises low literacy individuals are able to more easily acquire the new language skills they need without having to rely on written instruction or text.

Contracted by Association PAGeduc, TELL ME MORE® developed 240 lessons with 120 hours of engaging content to assist immigrants, financially challenged individuals and incarcerated persons in successfully transitioning into society by better being able to communicate in French. Known as the “ANColie” project the low literacy learning program is based on content provided by PAGeduc and aligns with the basic DILF (Diplôme Initial de Langue Française, or initial diploma in French language) qualifications for learning French for non-French-speakers. The “ANColie” project will help to increase the reach of the organization, give learners’ access to a broader selection of content and increase their ability to practice more than they previously could in a traditional classroom environment.

Programs like this start participants off “on the right foot” providing lessons on basics such as introducing oneself, asking for directions, grocery items, and documentation/visa related items and features a six hundred (600) word vocabulary builder. The goal of the program is to quickly assist participants in becoming self-reliant. TELL ME MORE® supports this goal by delivering technology-based lessons online anytime/anywhere to learners while providing tracking, reporting and management capabilities to program administrators.

“Being able to ease the process for immigrants to adapt to their new life and help French society to provide necessary skills to new residents is incredibly rewarding.” says Jean Richen, Vice President of Sales for Auralog “The face of France has become diversified with the French language providing the common thread. Programs like this reinforce our organizational mission and passion for improved communication.”

The TELL ME MORE® language learning program for low literacy individuals is available exclusively through PAGeduc and its partner organizations.
